I'm sure that like many oboists, I have very precious memories of a couple of lessons and master classes with Neil when I was in my early twenties. His encouragement, warmth and generosity made a real difference to me at a time when I needed that 'push' to be brave enough to be the musician that I wanted to be, rather than the one who I thought teachers wanted to hear, and for this I am forever grateful.
